"Bush's aim of making Iraq a democracy and projecting American power in the region as a way of fighting the war on terrorism is a failure. The invasion has only improved al-Qaida's ability to recruit terrorists and undermined U.S. long-term interests in the region. It has, for sure, made Iran the regional power. The question once the elections are out of the way will be how best to deal with those consequences."
